Abstract, geometric graphic in blue, red and black ink on paper by Arthur Luiz Piza. His style combines drawing and graphic techniques. Handcrafted wooden frame black patinated with white-gold decoration, grey-matte passepartout, non-reflecting glass. Size of the drawing 32 cm x 25 cm + passepartout 5 cm. Biography Arthur Luiz Piza Piza was born 1928 in Sao Paulo, where he received his first training. He moved to Paris in 1955 and worked in the studio of the master of colour etching, Johnny Friedlaender. Piza soon became expert in all the techniques of etching and aquatint, using sugar-lift extensively, but he experimented in various ways to make his work more sculptural and three dimensional. He abandoned traditional etching techniques and, using very thick copper plates, he devised his unique "gouge" technique by incising his designs into his plates with hammers and various shaped chisels. The precision required is exact as his grooves need to be precisely deep and wide enough to hold his handmade special inks. Because of the depths of the grooves, the direction of the wiping directly affects the final impression Each impression of his prints requires at least 30 minutes between colors in order for the plate to be re-inked and wiped, and he has to use cold plates in order for the inks not to dry out. The process of producing each impression is a time consuming and laborious process of collaboration between Piza and his printers. His work has met with great success and is shown in major public collections world-wide, including MOMA in New York, the Bibliothèque Nationale and the Musée d’Art Nationale (Centre Pompidou) in Paris. He has been awarded numerous prizes, notably for etching, at the 1959 Sao Paolo Biennale and at Documenta Kassel in 1959. From 1958, Piza devoted himself primarily to burin engraving. Starting from this period, the artist created reliefs and collages, as well as sculpted objects, porcelain and jewellery. During the 1960s, Arthur Luiz Piza became known as one of the most compelling representatives of the art of engraving. His style is very personal: the plate is cut, gashed, gouged, hammered, sculpted in small, successive marks that, like scales, interlock and overlap; hollows become volumes. The artist works with the perception of matter, matter that is imaginary and poeticised. The colours used by the artist are often ochres, muted and subdued. Arthur Luiz Piza lives and works in Paris. Dimensions: 47 x 3 x 53cm

Rare and very Decorative bowl or centerpiece that would look higly decorative in any modern home or interior. The material thickness oscillates between 7-9mm, the weight of the object is around 3kg Short Biography Nerone Ceccarelli: Born August 31, 1937 in Pisa - died November 07, 1996 in Paris Italian sculptor who bridged the gap between art and the world of architecture. His sculptures are characterized by a strict, abstract geometry. Ceccarelli exhibits his first works at the “Salone di Trecento” in Treviso in 1951, when he is only 14 years old.  His art is influenced by Masaccio, Donatello and Uccello. He studies sculpture at the Florence Art Academy from 1954. Ceccarelli then moves to Venice, where he befriends designer and architect Carlo Scarpa. In the late 1950s the artist abandons figurative art and turns to abstractionism. In 1962 he becomes a founding member of the interdisciplinary movement NP2, together with his friend Giancarlo Patuzzi. The artists of NP2 aspire to merge art and architecture. The entrepreneurial spirit of Nerone’s brother Piercarlo Ceccarelli enables the group  to hold their first exhibitions in the US and Canada between 1965 and 1967  (in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Boston and Montreal). The artists believe that sculpture and visual art should interpret space, thus becoming a part of everyday life.  Elitist thinking takes a back seat in their ideology. They see art as something dynamic and democratic. With the founding of the studio “Forme e Superfici” the focus shifts to various modern conceptual means (esp. the technical and artistic treatment of marble and zinc with new techniques). 1968: Design of the “Monumento alla Giustizia” in Saluzzo 1972: Design of “El Conquistador”, a large sculpture commissioned by the luxury hotel El Conquistador in Puerto Rico 1975: Construction of a large patinated zinc wall, installed in the semicircle of the Luxembourg Parliament 1978: Creation of a custom-made screen for the Villa Noor, the residence of the Shah 1989: Exhibition at the “Art Expo” in New York, where Ceccarelli’s works show a successful symbiosis of architecture and sculptural art In the 1990s the artist decorates various theaters in Italy, e.g. designing “Viva Schoenberg”, a curtain for the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa. 50 x 35.5 x 7cm
